i’ve always been a little spiritual. i collected rocks as a small child. that rock collection later morphed into crystals. crystals may have been one of my first stepping stones into the spiritual world, but it was plant oils that truly opened my mind to all spirituality has to offer.

i first discovered essential oils in 2013 right before i went to massage school. i was drawn to them for the simple things at first. stress. sleep. energy. focus. things to make simple, everyday struggles a little easier. when we spent some time with them in massage school, the more curious i became. we learned about the plants’ origins, traditional uses, aromatic profiles, and the ways people have worked with them throughout history.  

what was it about these plants that made them feel so different??

in 2015, i decided to go with young living to start my oil journey. i got my kit and started keeping oils everywhere. i had bedside oils, kitchen oils, oils in my bag to bring with me everywhere i went. almost like a magical litter scattered around my life.

i wasn't simply using oils. i was learning how to work with plant oils as allies.

there was something deeply grounding about developing that relationship with the natural world using plant oils. my meditations became more intentional. my spiritual practices felt more embodied. somewhere along the way, i realized that this was more than just aromatherapy for me. it was almost a form of magic.

even within that magic, stuff was happening behind the scenes that made me question if oils were the right move for me. in 2023, i stopped using oils and researched them even more. i found some truths. i found some lies. now, i'm finding my way back to oils again. only this time, i’m not going into it with all of the bad crap i was fed the first time. it’s an honest take on what oils can actually do.

i’m not the same person i was when i first discovered essential oils. i’ve learned so much since then. I’m not gonna use sleazy sales tactics. i’m not gonna lie about the positive affects of oils or their potential downside. i’m gonna be as honest with you as i am with myself

i’m glad to be getting back into something that used to bring me so much joy. choosing to come back to essential oils feels like returning to an old friend. and i’m so excited to be with her again.
